NL232 is a salt and pepper mill developed as an investigation into precision, materiality and daily use. The mills work with a simple cylindrical geometry and glass-blasted stainless steel surfaces. Colour is used as identification rather than decoration, while the material's own character is allowed to define the object. Selected as one of the projects representing the practice at Muuto Design Contest 002.
NL232 explores the relationship between material weight, surface quality and daily ritual. The choice between stainless steel and cast iron is not arbitrary — each material produces a different experience in the hand and a different presence on the table. The mechanism is resolved to operate smoothly and consistently over years of use.
